How to Use a Cigar Humidor

Pipes | Cigars | Whisky
Once cigar appreciation reaches a certain level, aficionados typically invest in a dedicated storage solution—the humidor. Electronic humidors with stable temperature and humidity create optimal aging conditions for cigars. As precision instruments, they require attentive care.

1、Humidor Installation

  1. Place on a stable, dry surface away from heat sources.

  2. Maintain 10 cm clearance on three sides for ventilation.

  3. WiFi Positioning:

    • Ensure strong signal reception for app control (WeChat compatible).

    • Connect to the same WiFi network as your phone during setup.

  4. After delivery/movement:

    • Let the unit rest unplugged for 6–8 hours before initial use.

2 Operation Guidelines

1. Naked Aging vs. Box Storage

  • Naked aging: Suitable for short-to-medium-term storage (weeks/months).

  • Long-term aging: Preserve premium cigars in original boxes inside the humidor.

2. Temperature & Humidity Settings

Cigar TypeTemperatureHumidity
Fresh cigars (<5 years)20°C (68°F)70% RH
Aged cigars16–18°C (61–64°F)70% RH

3. Water Refilling Procedure

  1. Remove the bottom shelf.

  2. Pull out the white filler cap.

  3. Using a funnel, add distilled/purified water:

    • Fill until the "Refill Water" indicator turns off (~3L initial).

    • For precision, switch to a 500ml container near capacity.

  4. Confirmation: A long beep and indicator light signal completion.
Caution: Prevent spills on wooden surfaces or electrical components.

4. Water Replacement Cycle

  • Replace water every 2 months to remove:

    • Nicotine residue

    • Ammonia from new cigars

  • Use the included mini-pump to drain old water.

  • Benefits: Protects pumps and improves air quality.

5、Troubleshooting Common Issues

1. Condensation on Surface/Glass Door

  • Cause: High ambient humidity (e.g., rainy seasons).

  • Solution:

    • Wipe with a dry, soft cloth.

    • Check door seals for tight closure.

2. Normal operational noises may include:

① Post-shutdown coolant flow
② Refrigerant circulation
③ Evaporator operation
④ Thermal expansion/contraction of parts

6、Maintenance

  1. Cleaning Frequency: Every 6 months (minimum 1–2 times/year).

  2. Steps:

    • Power off completely.

    • Wipe condenser and interior with a damp soft cloth + mild detergent.

    • Rinse with water-dampened cloth; dry immediately.

  3. Avoid:

    • Abrasives, alkaline cleaners, hot water, or brushes.

    • Sun-drying cedar shelves (air-dry indoors).

  4. Accessories: Remove and clean separately.

  5. Post-Cleaning:

    • Reconnect power.

    • Verify temperature/humidity settings.

    • Run empty for 1–2 hours before reloading cigars.

  6. Long-Term Storage:

    • Unplug, clean, and air-dry with doors open.

Key Terms:

  • Naked aging: Storing cigars without original boxes.

  • RH: Relative Humidity

  • Condenser: Heat-exchange component

For peak performance, treat your humidor as meticulously as your cigars. Consistency equals preservation.
